A conventional system records continuously, which means an incident at some point overnight becomes hours of scrubbing. Motion alerts were supposed to solve this, and instead they fire on a moth, a shadow, a passing branch and rain — until the notifications are muted and the system stops being watched at all.

Modern detection distinguishes people and vehicles from everything else moving in frame. That changes two things: alerts start arriving only for events that could matter, so they remain worth reading; and recorded footage becomes searchable by event, so finding the moment a vehicle entered the yard takes seconds rather than an evening.
